Clydesdale Bank Premier League Manager of the Month for February
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been named the Clydesdale Bank Premier League Manager of the Month for February.
Lennon led his side to five consecutive league wins throughout the month to take Celtic 20 points clear at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League table. His side began the month with a convincing 4-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle before beating Inverness C.T. 1-0 at Celtic Park three days later. Celtic then returned to Edinburgh this time to face Hibernian and they impressed in a comfortable 5-0 win, which they followed up with a 2-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic. Celtic completed the month with a 1-0 win over Motherwell to ensure that they finished the month without conceding a goal while scoring an impressive 13 goals in their five Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches.
Neil Lennon has now guided his side to 17 consecutive wins in the league and the consistency of his side as well as their ability to play attractive football whilst keeping clean sheets led the panel to pick him as their Clydesdale Bank Premier League Manager of the Month.
Clydesdale Bank Premier League Player of the Month for February
Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew has been named the Clydesdale Bank Premier League Player of the Month for February.
Mulgrew played a key role for Celtic as they picked up five consecutive victories throughout the month. His side began February with a 4-0 win away to Hearts, which they followed up with a 1-0 victory at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Celtic then returned to Edinburgh, this time to play Hibs, and they recorded a comfortable 5-0 win with Mulgrew scoring a terrific free kick. Mulgrew continued his goalscoring form by netting the opening goal as Celtic defeated Dunfermline Athletic 2-0 before helping his side round off the month with a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Celtic Park.
As well as scoring two goals Mulgrew also formed a key part of the Celtic defence which didnât concede a league goal throughout the month. An impressive spell for Charlie also saw Celtic finish the month 20 points clear at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and record a 17 game winning run in the SPL. Mulgrewâs performances were also noticed at international level and Craig Levein handed Mulgrew his Scotland debut in the 1-1 draw with Slovenia last week. It was Mulgrewâs solidity in defence as well as his attacking threat that led the panel to vote him as their Clydesdale Bank Premier League Player of the Month.
Clydesdale Bank Premier League Young Player of the Month for February
Dundee United midfielder Gary Mackay-Steven has been named the Clydesdale Bank Premier League Young Player of the Month for February.
Mackay-Steven was in great form throughout the month helping his side remain unbeaten with three wins and a draw. Dundee United began the month with a fantastic 5-1 away win against St Johnstone, in which a spectacular piece of skill from Mackay-Steven was a highlight in the convincing win. United then drew 0-0 with St Mirren at Tannadice before returning to the goal trail in a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock with Gary a constant attacking threat throughout. Dundee United finished off the month with a 2-0 win against Hearts as they set their sights on sealing a Europa League place in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
As well as helping Dundee United remain undefeated throughout the month he also received international recognition winning his first Scotland U21 cap in the 0-0 draw with Holland. It was Mackay-Stevenâs directness and ability to entertain the crowds that led the panel to vote him as their Clydesdale Bank Premier League Young Player of the Month.
