Dunfermline Athletic 0 St Mirren 0
Dunfermline were presented with their First Division Championship flag - but they found their first taste of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League a tough one. Jim McIntyre's side were second-best throughout and the Saints will rue it as two points dropped. Saints were the better side in the opening 45 minutes however Dunfermline came close when Martin Hardie's free-kick forced a good save from Craig Samson. Danny Lennon's side could have gone in at the interval ahead after ex-St Mirren defender John Potter was penalised for holding Saints' debut striker Steven Thompson - but Paul Gallacher dived to his left to turn Thompson's penalty-kick away. St Mirren continued to dominate after the interval but both sides struggled to make the breakthrough in front of a 5,035 crowd. Thompson again came close with a volley from Gary Teale's cross but side-footed wide, while Hardie came close with another free-kick which went narrowly past the post.
