Fir Park was the venue for the big clash of last weekend, between the Clydesdale Bank's team and the Scottish Press side, whose new strips are sponsored by the Clydesdale Bank. The dapper new outfit seemed to inspire the media side - containing such luminaries as BBC TV's Chick Young and Sky's Peter Martin - and they went in front in the opening minute when Young converted a penalty, awarded after a late tackle on the BBC's pacy Kheredine Idessane.
However, the experienced Clydesdale Bank side soon regained the initiative and only strong defending from the Press team helped maintain the lead. The Clydesdale Bank side eventually drew level with a header after 42 minutes. The Press team regained the lead a minute later when The Scotsman's Alan Pattullo bulleted home a Duncan Ferguson-style header from Idessane's cross - but the Bank again bounced back and equalised with another header just before the interval.
The Bank upped the tempo early in the second-half and a four-goal burst in the opening ten minutes of the second-half put them comfortably in control, before adding three more goals in the later stages to ensure a comfortable victory. Bank scorers were Harry Stevenson (4), David Fleming (1), Allan Dempsie, Colin Patteson, James Kelly and Ally Martin. As for the Press team, at least they looked the part.
