Weekend review

Motherwell 0 Celtic 1
Daryl Murphy's second-half penalty saw Celtic take over at the top of the table in a close fought encounter at Fir Park.  Both sides looked to be suffering post-Europa League exit hangovers as the game experienced a slow start, although both John Sutton and Shaun Maloney had early chances in the game.  The game sprung to life however when Maloney ran on to Daniel Majstorovic's clearance and went down under Steven Saunders' challenge in the box.  Referee Dougie McDonald gave the spot-kick and sent Saunders off for the challenge.  Murphy made no mistake with his first Celtic goal to keep up his side's 100% start to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Aberdeen 0 Kilmarnock 1
Aberdeen lost their 100% record when Jamie Hamill struck two minutes into injury time to give Killie a much needed victory.  The Ayrshire side had threatened with both David Silva and Mahamadou Sissoko coming close before Hamill took James Dayton's pass and beat Howard to seal the points.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle 0 Hamilton Academical 1
Inverness CT’s hopes of building on last week's win at Tannadice were killed off by former striker Dougie Imrie's first-minute strike.  Imrie drove home a left-footer from 30 yards and Accies never looked like surrendering the points.  Ryan Esson in the home goal prevented Hamilton - who gave a debut to teenage Dutch striker Nigel Hasselbaink - adding a second goal when he saved from Flavio Paixao.  Caley Thistle’s best chance came when Adam Rooney's header was cleared by Andy Graham.

Rangers 2 St Johnstone 1
Rangers had Kenny Miller to thank once again when they came from behind to beat a battling St Johnstone side with a controversial winner.  Saints took a deserved first-half lead when Danny Grainger thundered in a 30-yard drive from Jody Morris' corner.  Rangers levelled eight minutes later when Sasa Papac turned in Steven Naismith's header despite the attempts of Kevin Rutkiewicz to clear.  Miller sealed the points late on when he turned Alan Maybury before firing home, although Saints were adamant he had barged the defender in the build-up.

Hearts 1 Dundee United 1
Morgaro Gomis' late drive saved United from ending a miserable week bottom of the SPL table.  The sub drove home with five minutes remaining to rescue a point for Peter Houston's side.  Hearts had gone in front when David Templeton converted Suso Santana's cross. United missed a chance to level when Jon Daly's second-half penalty was saved by Marian Kello, but Gomis came to their rescue.

St Mirren 1 Hibernian 0
Hibs continued their poor record in Paisley - they've now gone nine visits there without a win.  Craig Dargo scored the only goal when Darren McGregor knocked down Garry Brady's cross and Saints were well worth their win against a disappointing Hibs side.  Hibs afternoon was summed up when Derek Riordan stormed straight up the tunnel after being replaced by John Rankin as Hibs tried to snatch a point.
