Celtic 2 â 1 Rangers
Celtic claimed their first Old Firm league win for 17 months to strengthen Neil Lennon's case for being handed the post on a permanent basis.
Despite the fact Rangers had already been confirmed as champions, the Ibrox men gave no indication they had taken their foot off the gas during a pulsating first half. Walter Smith was forced into an early change when Allan McGregor hobbled off to be replaced by Neil Alexander but one of the sub's first tasks was to pick the ball out of the net. Lee Naylor's low free-kick took a deflection off Davie Weir to wrong-foot Alexander and hand Celtic the lead on eight minutes.
Two minutes from half-time Rangers equalised when Kenny Miller rose to head home Steven Whittaker's cross but Celtic re-took the lead before the break when Marc-Antoine Fortune's header proved too hot for Alexander to handle. In a bizarre twist Celtic too had to swap keepers when Artur Boruc departed with broken fingers and Lukasz Zaluska came on. Miller hit the post in the second half but that was the end of the scoring in an intense Old Firm derby which saw Lee McCulloch sent off in the closing stages for a second yellow card.
