Weekend review - week 29

Dundee United 1 – 0 Hearts
United leapfrogged Hibs into third position with Margaro Gomis again the home hero.  Gomis grabbed a double in last week's win over Falkirk and it was the midfielder who struck again late in a match the home side dominated.  He fired home from Craig Conway's cross with the ball taking a deflection off Lee Wallace on the way in.  Earlier Hearts survived a penalty claim for what looked a deliberate handball by David Obua.

Falkirk 0 – 2 Celtic
Celtic had Robbie Keane to thank for their first win of the season against basement club Bairns.  Keane finished well to give Celtic a first-half lead from Morten Rasmussen's excellent pass but the Bairns missed great chances to score before and after the break. Enoch Showumni finished feebly after Scott Arfield's great run and then the giant striker headed over from a good second-half position.  Vitor Lima also came close when he drove over the top and the home side were made to pay when Keane ran on to finish clinically from Marc Crosas' long pass.  Artur Boruc had earlier come to Celtic's rescue with a great reaction stop from Marc Twaddle's overhead kick.

Hamilton 1 – 1 Aberdeen
Battling Accies made it nine games without a win for Aberdeen but the visitors ended up happy to leave Lanarkshire with a point.  Flavio Paixao headed the home team in front from Brian Easton's corner just after the hour but Aberdeen levelled when Zander Diamond side-footed home Steven MacLean's cross.

Hibernian 1 – 0 Kilmarnock
Derek Riordan's late free-kick earned Hibs their first win in six games.  Former Rangers 'keeper Lee Robinson came into the action after Killie's Cammy Bell suffered an early head knock and he impressed with a series of saves, including from Benjelloun's second-half penalty.  But Killie, for the second weekend in succession, were beaten by a free-kick when Riordan curled the ball home after James Fowler's foul on Danny Galbraith.

Rangers 3 – 1 St Mirren
Rangers had to come from behind to overcome a spirited St Mirren side.  On-loan Celt Graham Carey fired the Paisley side ahead from a free-kick after half-an-hour but Lee McCulloch drove in the leveller two minutes later.  St Mirren were caught cold after the re-start and McCulloch swept in Gers' second a minute into the second-half and sub Nacho Novo drilled in the third to seal the win.

St Johnstone 1 – 2 Motherwell
Motherwell made it ten games unbeaten thanks to John Sutton's late strike.  Jamie Murphy had scored for the second successive Saturday to put 'Well ahead, stroking the ball home after Graham Gartland blocked his first effort.  But Stevie Milne levelled with his first Clydesdale Bank Premier League goal of the season from Kenny Deuchar's pass. However Sutton struck with four minutes left, turning the ball in for the winner when home 'keeper Graeme Smith fumbled 'Well sub Lukas Jutkiewicz's drive.  Clydesdale Bank Premier League Manager of the Month Craig Brown looks to have cemented a top-six place with his side now 14 points ahead of seventh-placed Aberdeen.
