Midweek review – week 22

Hearts 0 – 3 Aberdeen
Fraser Fyvie went into the record books when he became the youngest goalscorer in SPL history at 16 years and 10 months.  With Hearts looking for offside, the young midfielder latched on to a Mark Kerr through ball and tucked the ball under Marian Kello to give his side the lead after 12 minutes. Ref Mike Tumilty waved away Hearts' penalty claim when Michael Stewart was felled, and Darren Mackie finished the game as a contest when he forced the ball past Kello five minutes after the interval.  Derek Young added a third from a long-range free-kick to move Aberdeen back into the top six.

Hamilton 0 – 0 Kilmarnock (Tues 26th Jan)
The goalless draw between the Clydesdale Bank Premier League strugglers served only to open up a gap between them both and bottom club Falkirk.  Hamilton skipper Alex Neil was injured in the warm-up and that set the tone for a scrappy encounter.  Killie's Mark Burchill saw an effort saved by Tomas Cerny after a David van Zanten error and Mickael Antoine-Curier missed Accies' best chance in a stalemate.  Hamilton stay two points ahead of Kilmarnock, while Killie remain without a Win in their last seven league matches.

Celtic 1 – 2 Hibernian
Hibs dealt Celtic's title hopes a serious blow with Danny Galbraith's last-minute Parkhead winner.  Marc-Antoine Fortune headed in Paul Caddis' fifth-minute corner to give Celtic the lead, but Hibs levelled halfway through the first-half when Anthony Stokes flicked Derek Riordan's corner past Artur Boruc.  New Celt Morten Rasmussen came on as a sub but it was Hibs who provided a shock in the second minute of stoppage time when Stokes' breakaway run ended with Galbraith firing the winner.

Dundee United 3 – 3 St Johnstone
United came from two behind but had to settle for a point in a Tannadice thriller.  Peter MacDonald burst through the United defence to give Saints a sixth-minute lead and Liam Craig put the visitors two up after 21 minutes. United rallied after the break as Jon Daly's header and Danny Swanson's volley got them level before Steven Anderson's own goal put United ahead.  But battling Saints levelled almost immediately through Peter MacDonald's hook shot for a deserved point.

Falkirk 0 – 0 Motherwell
Falkirk stay bottom of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League after they failed to take advantage against ten-man Motherwell.  Motherwell midfielder Giles Coke was shown a straight red for a late tackle on Scott Arfield just before half-time – the Fir Park side's first ordering-off of the season.  Falkirk fruitlessly claimed a goal ten minutes from time when 'Well 'keeper John Ruddy stumbled as he caught a shot underneath his crossbar, and Ruddy saved the visitors again in the 87th minute when he made a great save after Jack Compton's cross had looped off Tom Hateley's head.

St Mirren 0 – 2 Rangers
Rangers re-opened the ten-point gap at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with a hard-fought Paisley win.  Irish duo Kyle Lafferty and Steven Davis combined for Davis to put the visitors ahead after two minutes.  And although Saints battled hard, Lee McCulloch came closest to scoring with a volley which rebounded from the bar before Nacho Novo took Davis' pass to wrap the points up four minutes from time.
