On Sunday 4th October our SPL mascot, Champion the Clydesdale Horse, competed in the 11th John Smiths Annual Mascot Grand National.

The competition consisted of 69 other mascots, from clubs and organisations across the country in an attempt to break the world record for "Most Amount of Mascots in One Race". The race format was a one furlong sprint over hurdles, as part of a full afternoon of racing. The event was also designed to raise money for The Willow Foundation which runs special days for seriously ill 16-40 year olds.

Champion managed to finish in the top 20 with a time of just under a minute, avoiding numerous rugby tackles, mock fights and falling mascot parts along the way.

In total the event raised almost £3000 for The Willow Foundation, and was considered a hugely successful and enjoyable day for everyone in attendance.
