Dundee United - Clydesdale Bank support Dundee United FC’s Schools Initiative

Dundee United - Clydesdale Bank support Dundee United FC’s Schools Initiative

Youngsters from St. Clements Primary School in Dundee were the latest pupils to benefit from Dundee United FC’s Schools Initiative, supported by SPL sponsor Clydesdale Bank, as they were put through their paces by United legend Dave Bowman and his community coaches.

Now in its second year, ‘The Dundee United Schools Initiative’ involves United Community Coaches visiting local schools one day a week for a total of eight weeks to provide football coaching sessions which aim not only to develop pupils’ technical ability but also to highlight the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

United Striker Jon Daly who took part in Thursday’s training session applauded the positive impact of the initiative:
“It’s great to see the kids enjoying themselves so much by getting involved in football.  Sport is a great way to educate children of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle so I’m delighted to play my part in the initiative.”

Stressing the importance of Clydesdale Bank’s sponsorship to the success of the Dundee United Schools Initiative, Dundee United Community Coach Dave Bowman notes how the support has enabled the club to expand the initiative into its second year to accommodate even the largest schools in the area.

Dave Bowman, Community Coach, Dundee United FC:
“It’s great news that Clydesdale Bank have agreed to support our Schools Initiative - without such backing these sorts of projects would simply not be viable.  As we take the Dundee United Schools Initiative into its second year, the support we have received from Clydesdale Bank has allowed us to expand the initiative, enabling us to deliver the program to schools of all sizes.”

Irene Swankie, Clydesdale Bank Community Affairs Manager commented on Clydesdale Bank’s support for the community initiative:
â€œClydesdale Bank endeavours to play a positive role in the development of strong communities, and as SPL sponsor, what better way than to help Dundee United Football Club continue their excellent work in the local community by supporting the Dundee United Schools Initiative.”
