St. Johnstone - Clydesdale Bank supports St Johnstone FC’s Community Football Scheme

St. Johnstone - Clydesdale Bank supports St Johnstone FC’s Community Football Scheme

St Johnstone Manager Derek McInnes this week met up with kids from St Johnstone’s community football scheme to celebrate our £5,000 investment in the programme.

The St Johnstone community football scheme is a weekly programme for kids of all abilities aged between 5 and 16.  Each week the club run 17 different sessions ranging between soccer centres, football fours, soccer sevens and girls’ football, with the sessions proving so popular that around 1000 local kids attend each week.

St Johnstone set up the courses to ensure that kids in the local community can enjoy playing football whilst providing the correct facilities and coaching that allows kids to develop their fitness and perfect their football skills as well as helping them develop respect for others both on and off the park.

The investment from us will go towards funding 8 sets of goals for the programme and St Johnstone community manager Atholl Henderson welcomed their continued support saying: “The introduction of the new goalposts has really added to the quality of the session that we can put on for local boys and girls and we are really appreciative of the SPL and Clydesdale Bank’s support. The thrill of scoring a goal, puts a smile on a young face and helps to make playing in the Saints Community Scheme a memorable experience.”

Irene Swankie, Clydesdale Bank Community Affairs Manager also commented on the bank’s support for this community initiative saying: “This is our fourth year as SPL sponsor and over that time we have witnessed the range of excellent work that each club does to make a positive impact in its local community.  As a business we too aim to develop strong relationships that support local communities, so we are delighted to be able to help St Johnstone FC by providing funding to their Community Football Scheme.”
