Rangers - Clydesdale Bank supports Rangers FC’s Girls Development Programme

Rangers - Clydesdale Bank supports Rangers FC’s Girls Development Programme

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor joined up with girls from the Rangers Girls Development squad at Ibrox Stadium to accept a cheque of £5,000 in support of the programme.

The Rangers Girls Development programme has gone from strength to strength over the last four years. It began with a group of 12 girls aged between 10-14 years, who attended regular Sunday evening sessions at Rangers Training ground, Murray Park and it has now grown to a healthy squad of 40. These aspiring young footballers also have a chance to progress onto the girls and ladies squads through player pathways. The club recently implemented an under 15s squad to add to the already successful 17s and senior ladies squad, with a total of 13 players from the under 17s &19s now full Scottish internationalists.

The community programme works with 6,500 young people every week and this particular programme has enabled the club to help increase girls participation in sport and with that comes health benefits, improved confidence and self belief. The programme has also allowed the young players to simultaneously showcase their talents.

Stressing the importance of Clydesdale Bank’s sponsorship to the success of the Programme, Rangers community coach Gary Gibson said:
“The support from Clydesdale Bank is fantastic.  Without a doubt this partnership will help us to maintain and develop the strong commitment we have to our community and the girls within the programme.”

Irene Swankie, Clydesdale Bank Community Affairs Manager commented on the support for this community initiative:
“This is Clydesdale Bank’s fourth year as SPL sponsor and over that time we have witnessed the range of excellent work that each club does to make a positive impact in its local community.  As a business we too aim to develop strong relationships that support local communities, so we are delighted to be able to help Rangers FC by providing some additional funding to their Girls Development Programme.”
