Clydesdale Bank Community

Community Awards

Clydesdale Bank Community Award Winner

Ian Black has been announced as our latest Clydesdale Bank Community Award winner.  Ian was nominated by his wife Gillian, who feels that Ian's tireless work for Tynecastle FC and Tranent Primary School is worthy of praise.

Ian was a footballer himself, he played with Hearts in the late 70s, and he wants to pass on the skills he learned and the fun he had through football to the local kids.  He works as a social care worker with Edinburgh District Council, working with adults with learning disabilities, and often goes straight from night shift to the games.  Ian never takes credit for the team doing well, saying that the kids did it themselves, they only needed encouragement and guidance to do well.

Ian's son currently plays with Inverness Caley Thistle, and he often misses seeing his son play to watch the kids' teams he supports.  Ian was presented with his award by Hearts captain Christophe Berra before the Hearts v Inverness CT game, so he could also then watch his son play!

Ian said:  "Football is a great thing for kids to get into, it keeps them healthy, giving them an interest and keeps them off the streets and out of trouble.  I really enjoy working with them and seeing how well they've progressed."
