Clydesdale Bank Community
Clydesdale Bank Community Award winner
David McAlpine of Deanston, Doune, has been announced as the latest winner of the Clydesdale Bank Community Award.
David runs Deanston Football Club and was nominated for the award by his grandson, also David McAlpine, who plays for the club in a summer league.
David is the heart and soul of Deanston FC and arranges everything for the boys in the team whilst squeezing in full time job and grandparent duties as well! David's value to Deanston FC is impossible to quantify and his tasks at the club include washing the strips, lining the pitch, sorting the first aid kit, filling the water bottles, supplying the all important half time oranges, providing transport to games, helping with the club finances, arranging fundraising ventures, attending league meetings on behalf of the club and, as if that's not enough, he even finds time to choose the man of the match each week and help select the winners at the club's player of the year awards!
David is a true Deanston FC stalwart and all the lads appreciate the time and effort he puts into the club.
The winners of the Clydesdale Bank Community Award are presented with their award by someone from their team of choice, and Dundee United fan David chose to come down from Deanston to a Tangerines home game to receive his award pre-match. Dundee United's Steven Robb was on hand to do the honours, and David and his grandson were thrilled.
David said: "I'm chuffed to bits with this award. I didn't even know that David had nominated me until we got the phone call saying I'd won."
His grandson who nominated him said:
"We would struggle to put out a team and continue in the league without him. It's great he's been recognised with this award."
As part of the prize Clydesdale Bank will also £100 to Deanston Football Club on David's behalf.
Congratulations to David on being a worthy winner of the Clydesdale Bank Community Award.
