Monhlty Awards for March
CB Premier League Manager of the Month for March
Rangers Manager Walter Smith has been named CB Premier League Manager of the Month for March. Wins over Aberdeen, Celtic and Hibernian saw Walter Smith’s side take maximum league points for the month. Rangers also defeated Dundee United to win the CIS Insurance Cup and progressed to the UEFA Cup quarter finals with an aggregate victory over Werder Bremen.
This is the third Manager of the Month award for Walter Smith, having previously won in August and January.
CB Premier League Player of the Month for March
Falkirk defender Darren Barr has been named Clydesdale Bank Premier League Player of the Month for March. Darren, 23, had a fantastic month at the heart of the Falkirk defence, playing in all four league games and helping the club to record a clean sheet in each match.
Darren, appointed club captain in January, has played a major part in Falkirk’s undefeated month which has left them on the brink of clinching a top six place in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, a first for the club.
Young Player of the Month award for March
Dundee United defender Garry Kenneth has been named Clydesdale Bank Young Player of the Month for March.
Garry had an excellent month at the heart of the Dundee United defence, helping his side to record three clean sheets in their four league games whilst maintaining their challenge for a UEFA Cup spot. Gary’s performances were central to Dundee United’s victories over Motherwell and Gretna in the month and also the hard earned point in the goalless draw against Celtic.
John Bonar from Dundee took part in the voting here at cbfootball and was our lucky winner who got to present the award to Garry. John came along to Tannadice for the presentation and listened into Garry and the Manager’s press conferences. He said:
“This was fantastic, a great surprise. It was really interesting to hear what the Manager and Player had to say, as you only get a small clip on TV. To see it actually happen was great. I voted for Garry as he’s definitely improved this season, and really deserves the recognition.”
